This is not my usual post on this blog. But, I gotta let this all out before I destroy my own wedding dress, seriously. I’m overwhelmed, and not in a good way. Well, actually I can’t destroy it. I rent it so they won’t give my deposit back if I do so. Oh, money… why are you so wasted.
And yes friends, we are having a reception by the end of March. Although both of us strongly refused to have one, for one reason and another, we still can’t completely avoid it. It’s a long story.
One of the things that I enjoy the most about traveling is the feeling of being away from people. And that includes people from social media. *introvert detected* Seriously, noisy and kepo people really drains me out.
It’s crazy how my mind is focused more on Instagram and seeing other people’s life rather than enjoying my own. It’s weird that I talk to my “online” friends more that I talk to my family, who I meet every day at home. And the even weirder thing is that I enjoy all that. But at the same time, I don’t feel that it’s right either. It feels good but it’s not right.
It’s been two months since I resigned from my 8 to 5 job as a software developer and now I bake and decorate cakes for a living (go check https://www.instagram.com/bakemorecakes/ to see my works! 🙂 ). Sometimes I write too. And so far, it’s the best two months ever. Fred even mentioned about how I never complain about anything anymore, that I was never in a bad mood, and that I made the right choice.
Valentine’s day is just around the corner! How will you celebrate it? Some might go out for a fancy dinner, some might opt for a humble dinner at home. Some might go out for a movie, and some might even have no one to celebrate with. #oops
I think this year I’ll just cook some meal and watch a movie or two afterwards, just like many many other years. After all, it’s not about the fancy restaurant, right?
Oh, if you’re looking for a gift for your loved one, you might wanna consider this timeless piece from Daniel Wellington. Just make sure that that someone is very.. very… special as this watch is.
I know… It’s been like 2 months since the last time I update something on my blog. And the reason behind all those is that I’ve been busy working my full time job (still) while managing my side job which happens to be my new business. Well it’s actually my second side job as I also work as a freelance photographer. (Can you imagine how I live my life?! It’s pretty frustrating, sometimes)
So anyway, 2 months ago, I decided to start selling cakes, cupcakes, and even some breads online. The business itself is still very small, like it will never be enough for a living, but it’s constantly growing, I can see it.
If you’ve been following my Instagram and Twitter, you might already noticed that recently I’ve been posting quite a few pictures which were taken using my new Smartphone.
Yes, it’s a brand new Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, which is claimed to be a super mid-range smartphone. That being said, this phone was built using Sony’s leading camera technology, great battery power management (mine last for about 2 days!), a beautiful waterproof sleek design (yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is a one damn waterproof smartphone and it looks just exactly like those Xperia Z series!) with an affordable price. If I’m not mistaken, it’s currently being sold at USD 399.
You know, lately, I don’t have the urge to explore new restaurants or new cafes in town. Those kind of experience sort of bored me out. Like, I’ve done that quite a lot and now I’m done with it (not permanently of course).
I’ve been eating more and more healthy food at home. I eat less red meat, more fruits, no processed or canned food, etc etc etc. And last week, I just did my 3 days Detox which allows me to eat fruits ONLY during the days. It just feels really good, you know, to be aware of what you put into your body. And how your body reacts to it.
Then I came across this phase of life when cooking healthy food becomes an obsession. Now I found myself bake occasionally since it’s way cheaper (and healthier) than buying you cakes outside. Plus, it’s fun too!
In this particular post, I want to share with you one of my favorite Chiffon Cake recipe which calls for BLACK GLUTINOUS RICE (or as the Indonesian said, Ketan Hitam) as the flavor.
To make this light spongy not-too-sweet black glutinous rice chiffon cake, you’ll need :
75 gram of black glutinous rice flour
25 gram of all purpose flour
5 egg yolks
5 egg whites
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar (I don’t use this in my experiment)
75 gram white sugar
35 gram white sugar
75 gram thick coconut milk
60 gram vegetable oil
In a bowl, put together egg yolks, sugar, and oil. Mix it well, then add coconut milk and salt. Stir until combined.
In a separate bowl, sift your all-purpose flour, black glutinous rice flour and baking powder. Then, pour the dry ingredients onto the wet ingredients. Mix well.
Now, just like any other chiffon cake, in another separate bowl, using your electric mixer, you want to beat your egg whites until they are stiff. They should be white, fluffy, but firm. Scrape the sides of your bowl frequently with your spatula.
Then using a spatula, fold your beaten egg whites into the batter. You’re doing this to make the batter a lot lighter and fluffy by incorporating air into the mixture.
Pour your batter into baking pan, bake it for about 45 – 50 mins in a preheated oven (180 C).
Now, you want to turn your baking pan upside down while cooling process takes place. It prevents your cake to flatten quickly.
Now, a soft fluffy chiffon cake is ready to serve! My cake did not come out perfect. It still flattened a little bit, and I didn’t mix the egg whites well so the color of the cake was not even. But it tasted marvelous! I bet you want to try some? 😉
There were times when Molten Lava Cakes was such a popular desserts. Like, all of a sudden, this dessert popped up in a lot of restaurant or cafe menu. People took a pic of it, shared it on their social media as if they were saying : “Yo world, I’ve finally tried this fancy dessert! Bet you haven’t.”
And BOOM!, the fame was over. There came another kind of desserts, more good looking, more “photogenic” which make it a lot easier to catch with our camera. Besides, people began to find a way to make it themselves at home! Which turned out, to be quite easy. (Psst. You can even make a ‘quick’ version of it using your microwave!)
