The Harvest Cakes

Everyone has that favorite comfort food – the one that makes them feel better (and happier) after having a rough terrible day. A dish they have been craving for weeks and can’t stand another without having some.

For me, it’s always been cake. And frankly speaking, any kind of cakes will do. But of course I have several preferences just like the others. Rule number one, cheesecake will always be on top of my list. It’s like my all time favorite cake. Then, another variety of cheesecake come second (it’s still cheesecake anyway) and it’s called chocolate cheese, like a combination of cheesecake and chocolate. I just tried it last week and got hooked immediately! Of course I also like chocolate cake, especially if it got a rich dark chocolate flavor and texture. But I won’t bother having something like Matcha Cake, Red Velvet, or even something lighter like Sponge Cake.

I have that one bakery I keep coming over, just for the sake of fulfilling my cake cravings. Well, it’s not a bakery actually since it sells mostly cakes and chocolates. There’s just a few choices of bread (and it’s not that good either) and pastries. But again, the choices is very limited. It’s The Harvest Patissier and Chocolatier, or just The Harvest for short. There are several branches in Indonesia : in Bandung (my current city!), Jakarta, Depok, Malang, Bogor, Surabaya, Tangerang, and… Bali (the newest one)! And they’re expanding to Makassar soon!

I don’t think I need to talk much about this particular place, since well, everybody knows what The Harvest is. But somehow, I found a lack of good service here. Gonna talk about it later at the end of this post!

But first, let’s dig our fork into that heavenly cake!

Oreo Cheesecake – IDR 28k

Call me a fanatic, but by any means, cheesecake will always be on top of my list. And Oreo Cheesecake is one of my favorite variety of cheesecake! You know that chocolate and cheesecake make a great creamy delicious fabulous combination, right? Imagine that the chocolate we’ve been talking about is substituted with Oreo cookie. I mean, who can turn cheesecake down when it comes with Oreo?

Chocolate Cheese – IDR 28k

This version of cheesecake is even more divine. I found that when the cheesecake batter mixed with chocolate, it somehow becomes more creamier than usual. And also thicker, in a good way. Plus, I like the fact that it sticks to my spoon every time I scoop this little beauty out. It is that creamy.

Strawberry Cheesecake – IDR 28k

Oh here’s my all time favorite version of cheesecake. The one that comes with strawberry! It also happens to be Fred’s favorite. That’s why I bought this one for his birthday last February. (I was thinking about making the cheesecake myself, trust me, but yeah, you know me. I’m only good at making brilliant plan, but not so good at executing them). FYI, the strawberry cheesecake at The Harvest is also one of their best-selling cake!

Red Velvet – IDR 33k

Remember that years ago, Red Velvet made it to become the star of desserts? Like, everybody talked about it, ate it, posted it on social media. Yes, it’s probably because of the eye catching red color. And the cream cheese that comes in every single layer. And not the mention, the moist cake itself. The one in The Harvest is not my favorite, though. I like it better in Mom’s Bakery (Jalan Progo Bandung) since it got a lot more flavor from the cake and also the cream. And it comes in a bigger portion, I supposed. This one at The Harvest is too light for a kind of red velvet I prefer. But it’s not bad at all! By the way, I would be happier if it comes with some pecans on top!

Chocolate Mousse – IDR 28k

What a beauty. It looks like a Dome. And it’s soooo juggly, so chocolaty, sooo yummy I can’t stand looking at it without having one. This one is Chocolate Mousse, and it got a dense flavor of chocolate. It’s covered with I-don’t-know-what but it tasted like a thin chocolate jelly. (Someone please tell me what it actually is?)

See? I won’t mind having another one.

Chocolate Emotion – IDR 28k

This one is just a normal chocolate cake. There’s just a thin layer of cake between those thick creamy chocolate mouse. Nothing really special about it. But I won’t complain if someone give me on one of my bad days – which happens almost everyday lately.

Strawberry Merry

Hot Cafe Latte – IDR 18k

The coffee here is not a strong one, not the kind of strong coffee you can get at the other local coffee shop. But I kinda like it! I had a cup of Cafe Latte, and bloody hell, it comes in a big cup. As you probably already know, Cafe Latte is espresso topped with steamed milk and a thin layer of foam. Definitely not a bad drink to spend your afternoon with!

Oh remember about the bad service I talked about earlier? So, it’s about how the waitress serves our food, and in this case, it’s cake. I don’t know if it’s just me but I think I need to write things down here because it seriously bothered me. I don’t know why but it took quite some time for the waitress to deliver the cake to my table even though it’s just a piece of cake – which make the job a piece of cake. Got what I mean? I mean, it’s there in the display case and calls for no cooking time. It took almost 10 to 15 minutes, and for me, it’s too long. And there’s one moment when I was about to buy some cake home. I finally chose one chocolate cake from the display case, and then I paid at the cashier, and then I had to wait for another 10 to 15 minutes for the waitress to pack my cake up. And that time, I had to ask for my cake twice. I mean, what’s wrong with them? They should just simply take it out from the display case, and then put it nicely inside the small box. And that’s it. Done within seconds!

I wish The Harvest can somehow improve their service. The foods here is undoubtedly good, but you can’t just piss your customers off over and over again because of the very S L O W service.
