Having grown up as a child who watched Harry Potter, I’ve always have this special little thing about Britain. You know, the accents (oh my God, they’re sexy), the Big Ben, the Queens guard, the typical British telephone booth. I know they all sounds silly. But, hey, all of them are just too lovely for me.
It surprised me that there’s actually a restaurant in Bandung with vintage British concept. Could it be the only one? Not sure.
Not long after that, Fred and I went for a dinner. Just before we attend an orchestra concert. What a night!
There’s one thing that stands out from this place with others : the interior. The room is big and has a high ceiling with so many pretty chandeliers. On the wall, lays some stag heads. And small candles are put on every single table.
It does feel like you’re somewhere else, somewhere far from Bandung. And I kinda like the feel of that.
I must admit, I know nothing about British food except for the Full English Breakfast and its famous Fish and Chips. And oh, not to mention the pie!
Turns out, there are a lot more foods I didn’t know exists. And all of them sounds warm and homy to me.
Braised Half Baby Chicken (IDR 57,5k)
Braised half of baby chicken served with Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, and mushroom gravy? Yes please! I never had some before.
And I can’t believe how good this was! It’s rich and slightly sweet. And the most important thing is that it’s perfectly tender. Not to mention the wet-crispy chicken skin 😉
Yorkshire pudding is another thing you’ll find in some other British food. It’s like fries to burger. Pommes to currywurst. This traditional batter pudding is a perfect match for the meat.
Royal Wonder Steak (IDR 85,5k)
Juicy tenderloin steak stacked with gratin potato, sauteed spinach, topped by melted mozarella and gravy? Fred love it.
The meat might look tiny, but actually it’s a bigger enough! It’s not tender enough though. And it’s slightly overcooked. But the gratin potato, the spinach, the sauce was just perfect.
I can’t stop eating Fred’s meal. Oops, sorry!
Everything about this restaurant is superb, from the food, the atmosphere, to the service. There’s nothing I can complain about. Definitely gonna return for some Shepherd’s Pie! And some cake of course! How can I miss that one?
