If you’ve heard people talking about Ubud, it must be something about the spa, the yoga, the meditation, the art, the rice paddle, I don’t know… And people who are looking for inner peace, let’s say, will probably stay in Ubud for like 3 days or a week, just to get the feel of the place and relax a little bit and forget about all the works & problems they’ve been through.
But hey, I’m only 21 & I got no bill to pay, so.. I’m not going to meditate for 4 hours or get a massage for 2 hours because I’m as fit as a lion, so… what I did is just eat, chill out, relax, eat, hang out, eat, and take the picture.
Breakfast Time
We arrive early at 9 am that morning and decided to have our second breakfast that day. (We had porridge with boiled eggs earlier that morning). We look for a breakfast spot in Foursquare and we found this place named Seniman Coffee Studio which is quite interesting. So, here’s the sneak peak.
Rule #1. You’ve got to leave your shoes outside the coffee shop or you need to sit at the outdoor tables instead – the outdoor seats are quite comfortable, though.
But we prefer the indoor one. It was comfy, and what’s even more unique is that you will find yourself sitting in a rocking chair in front of the coffee bar! How great is that?

I had crepes pancake with homemade fruit jams & Fred had Fat Tucker – similar to English Breakfast Set, I guess. We also shared a cup of Sumatra Gayo Coffee brewed using siphon coffee maker.

The place itself was sooo clean, homey and well-designed. And as for the taste of the coffee itself (we pick Sumatra Gayo coffee), it was kinda different from what I usually had actually. (I usually had regular coffees or starbucks’ lattes & cappuccino). But we pretty much enjoy watching how the barista brew the coffee using this siphon coffee maker. I even recorded a video of it!

Anyway, there is also a showcase store below the cafe – where the cashier is located. And I personally loveee how they decorated that small room.

Psst… They say, Seniman Coffee Studio serves the best coffee in Ubud!
Wandering Around
It’s passed breakfast time. Juiced up! We walk through the pedestrian path in Ubud main street. We found some stores, a traditional art market, and also some temples. But then the rain starts falling so we decided to head to the museum instead. It was named after the founder – Don Antonio Blanco Museum.
We had such a great time there & there were so many paintings, most of them are about sexy Balinese dancer and their famous beautiful breasts. Or the exotic naked fat Russian women. Yeah, there’s a lot of nudity here.
As a matter of fact, I don’t really understand about the art thing and I’m sure the same thing goes to Fred. But I just found out that wandering around seeing new things in museum is such a exciting thing to do nowadays!
Anyway…
There’s this small bird park in Don Antonio Blanco museum and we managed to take a picture with the birds. It takes…. a long time to overcome the fear, honestly.
The good thing is… we just have to pay Rp 30.000 for local (Rp 50.000 for foreigner) to enter the whole park in that area, including the museum. And we also get a free caramel tea in the restaurant.
It’s been such a pleasant to visit the art museum!
We also went to Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, but I don’t really enjoy being there. It’s like….a forest, no, a garden, but it looks much like a forest, with so many monkeys wondering around looking for peanuts or bananas. And there’s some temples too inside the forest. And a graveyard too. Can you imagine why I hate being there?
Late Lunch
It’s passed lunch time already!
We heard so many good reviews and recommendations about Cafe Wayan and Bakery. Okay, not literally ‘we heard’ but we do search, in purpose, for a recommended cafe that serve strawberry cheese cake, specifically, in Ubud. Believe it or not, this is the famous Cafe Wayan that was in the Eat Pray Love movie!
Luckily, we found this cafe so easily. Most people in foursquare recommend the strawberry cheese cake it serves. And since Fred & I are strawberry-cheese-cake-BIG-fans (GO CHEESECAKE! GO CHEESECAKE GO!), there’s no way we’re gonna leave Ubud without licking Cafe Wayan’s famous cheese cake.
Once again, foursquare has never been wrong. It was surprisingly good.. I mean, it is kinda different with the cheesecake we usually have – the creamy one. But this one’s different. It’s like a moist sponge cake – but not too spongy – and it was layered with the best cheese cream ever.
We also had Pork Spare Ribs BBQ. It was served with baked potato and a fresh spiced tomato.
If you’re going to dine in Cafe Wayan & Bakery, do look for the outdoor seat at the back side of the yard. Ask for a table at the back by the small fish pond & do sit on cushions, not at the tables. And you’ll find yourself relax! I could even take a nap there. Although this place seems small and a little bit “dark” from the outside, back so far of the yard is incredible.
So, that was our way of spending a day in Ubud, Bali. You see? No massage, no spa, no meditation, just eat and walk and cheer to the camera!
Wait for our next destination next week! Ciao!
This sounds amazing!
It is! 🙂
Love your post Sharon !
Thank you Ninik! 🙂
We absolutely loved Ubud when we were there too 🙂 we did indulge in a massage – but perhaps not as fit as you guys. Would love to go back! Sounds like a great trip.
Hehe, we haven’t try the famous massage yet. Not this time perhaps. Yeah, you should go back and do the massage again.
I like your pose as a monkey, hahaha
You should take more pics with it 😆 😆 😆
You kidding, right? There are still a loooot of other pictures and you choose to “highlight” that one instead. Hahaha. Anyway, monkey is my chinese zodiac. So….. that kinda makes sense huh? hahaha. 😀 😀
Haha, monkey is my chinese zodiac, too. I think that’s why I chose that pic 😆 😆
Great job! The food looks amazing. I was there about 5 years a go. Hung out with the locals ate pig fat and was “healed” by their medicine man. Would defiantly go back and try it your way next time.
Hey, thank you! Wow, that was pretty long time ago. I hope you can go back asap and enjoy Ubud 😉
haha

Hello Nitrina! 🙂
It was just a phone cam, but I use fish eye lens – the one you can just plug onto your phone cam lens.
