Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Singapore

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Singapore

You wouldn’t believe me if I tell you that last week makes the first time I ate Bak Kut Teh, like ever. And to be specific, Song Fa Bak Ku Teh was my first one! Think I made the right choice.

Long story short, Bak Kut Teh (which literally is translated as ‘meat bone tea‘) is a soup consists of pork ribs. I was a bit confused about the ‘tea’ part since I don’t think they use tea as the soup base? But then later I found out that people normally eat it with tea since most believe that tea can help to dissolve some amount of fat contained in the soup. So that’s how it was named after! I supposed.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is very crowded, especially during lunch and dinner time. So you might want to wait up at the line for up to 30 min. If you’re about to eat alone and are lucky, like me, you can get a shared table with the others instead. It makes queuing so much faster! I was soooo excited that I got to eat and chat with a local!

Premium Loin Ribs (SGD 9.00)

This Premium Loin Soup comes with 3 big pieces of ribs. While there are other menu, which was Pork Ribs Soup I think, that comes in 2 sizes : Small (2 pcs) and Large (3 pcs).

The pic might not look appetizing, but trust me, the ribs was really tender. It’s easily fall off the bone as you bite them! And it comes in a big size. The soup was very intensely rich and peppery, with some amount of whole cloves of garlic, just how I imagined it should be, after reading a lot of people’s reviews about this place. And it was served HOT, like it was just boiled. The best thing is that you can ask for a refill if you’re running out of soup! I even asked mine twice. If I got more time, I’d asked for the third times.

Xiao Bai Cai – Small (SGD 3.50)

While this was Xiao Bai Cai cooked with oyster sauce. I personally LOVE this dish! It was really fresh and the sauce was not overpowering the whole flavor.

Anyway, just so you know, they charged me 20 cents for the wet tissue. And even though you think you won’t use it, still you have to pay for the wet tissue since, it’s on the bill. But aside from that, it’s worth every penny spent!

Let’s just say this place will be my must visit from now on, if I happen to travel to Singapore. I did visit this place two times in a row, though! Next time, I’m gonna try eating the soup with dough fritters!
