Yesterday, after spending hours of swimming and watching sunset in Kuta Beach, we accidentally found a small food stall which sells churros – a traditional Spanish doughnut, in Kuta, Bali. Surprisingly, it’s not a food stand, not even a cafe. But it is a bajaj!
For those who don’t know what bajaj actually is, here’s the thing. Bajaj is a traditional public transportation, mainly operated in Jakarta and it’s pretty similar with rickshaw in Africa and Tuk-Tuk in Thailand. It got 3 wheels and the machine just can’t stop making noise. I mean it. It is that noisy.
So anyway, we found Churros La Fonda in KUTABEX (ground floor). And later I found out that it also got another bajaj parked in Beachwalk (L3), Kuta. Fred accidentally spot this unique bajaj that time and I was like : “Hey! This is the churros seller I’ve been searching for in Bali!”
Well, although churros is not a kind of popular snack in Indonesia, some cafes in Jakarta do serve churros as snacks or even breakfast. But here in Bali, I haven’t spotted any churros stalls at all in any tourist areas. But not this time. We’re just so lucky.
Anyway, I love the churros they sell here in Churros La Fonda. It’s freshly deep fried and served while it’s still hot. The seller will only fry the dough on the bajaj when we make an order.
And once the frying part is finish, the churros will be sprinkled with sugar. There are 2 kind of sugar here : cinnamon sugar & white sugar. We went for cinnamon instead.
And there are also some dipping sauce available here : Chocolate, Caramel, Strawberry, and Blueberry. Undoubtedly, chocolate for the win!
And here’s what my churros looks like. It looks and tasted just great. It may be cliché, but I couldn’t resist the taste. I… love it! (Although Fred’s not into churros that much. He prefers salty & spicy kind of snacks). Too bad the chocolate sauce is not as great as what I expected. I would prefer Nutella better.
The churros is just slightly crispy at the outside but it got a moist texture inside. And the cinnamon sugar sprinkle really makes this snacks more tasty.
What are you looking at? Go get your hot churros now! Buen provecho!

Interesting … guess Bajaj is the Indian company that makes these auto rickshaws (as we call them in India)
Haha yeah, that one too! I also found that there’s this famous motorbikes company named Bajaj in India. But here in Indonesia, it is a common name for a 3-wheeled public transportation.
Nice! Such a tiny place to make churros! I wish they had those here!
Yup, and they only got like 3 venues here in Bali. All of them are Bajajs 😉
Love the one with cinnamon sugar too, it gives a unique flavor 🙂
You like it too? Yeah, it’s like churros + cinnamon sugar is the best combination 😀
huwaa the stand is so cute, would try some 🙂
what is the best dipping sauce in your opinion?
It is too cute, I can’t stand it >,<
Hmm I only got a chance to try the chocolate dipping. Could be the best choice for me. But if you would love to try another weird-taste, caramel would be interesting.
a very bad version of a churro
