A Day in the Movies – Universal Studio Singapore

Universal Studio Ticket

Hi! It’s been such a long time since my last post, I know. I’m not in my holiday season yet. So, as a matter of fact, I got nothing to write about.

But wait!

I went to Universal Studio Singapore (USS) last month, in 25th February to be exact. And I got too excited! Because you know what, I could finally meet up with Pinocchio, the Madagascar, Puss in Boots, Woody Woodpecker, Shrek, the Elmo, and even Cleopatra!

Well, my trip was actually unplanned, anyway. My grandma suddenly decided that we should take a 5 days holiday last month. And I was like, should I got or not? Because you know, if I go, I’ll miss some classes and unfortunately, an important quiz. But then I don’t know what got into me and I said yes. So here we are.

Universal Studio

I spent one day full in Universal Studio, while my hotel was in Balestier road, so it took a pretty long way to get to the theme park. I’m not a fan of taxi (and I’m not here to argue), so I took the bus from Balestier Rd to VivoCity.

Note this : If you’re planning to have a vacation in Singapore, even a short one, make sure you buy yourself an ez-link card. It could be used for paying up the MRT and bus fee. So you don’t even need a taxi anymore!

Soon after I reach VivoCity, I took another bus, Bus RW8 (meaning Resort World 8) , which then took us to Sentosa Island. It costs S$2 / each person.
Too bad I didn’t know about the free monorail available at the 3rd floor of VivoCity earlier. If I did, I could have saved my S$2 then. Okay forget this.

Universal Studio

Soon after we bought the entrance tickets (S$74 each), we took a quick walk in the Hollywood road & headed to the Madagascar area.

Here’s the theme park’s map so that you can imagine it clearly.

Madagascar

Madagascar happened to be our first stop. It has 2 main attractions here : A Crate Adventure, which is a boat ride to the Madagascar world, and Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round. There aren’t any special ride here for us. It’s all for kids. But we do love it as we could take some photos with Alex, Gloria, and the penguins! They are bigger than I thought they would be.

I like to move it.. move it..

Then, we headed to Far Far Away.

Pinocchio Universal Studio Far Far Away Universal Studio Puss In Boots Universal Studio

The attractions they got here are Shrek 4D Adventure, Enchanted Airways which is a junior coaster, and Donkey Live Show where you’ll be literally talking to a donkey.

My favorite one is Shrek 4D Adventure. Here, you’ll be sitting on a moving chair in a theater watching an exciting Shrek tale. And you’ll be sprayed with water and even experience a spider tickling.

And here comes The Lost World..

We rode the Canopy Flyer and Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure. Well, I have to admit that Canopy Flyer really got me. It’s a flying swing ride where you’ll be sitting with your legs dangling and then you’ll fly just like a bird. The ride was faster than what I expected, you know, I thought it would be a slow leisure flight, but it’s not. It will twist you like crazy.

Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure is also great. You’ll be sitting (with belt) in a tube ride and then begin your journey through the Jurassic jungle slowly. But then at the end of the ride, you’ll meet T-Rex and experience a quick drop and you might get soaked at the end, just like I did. Yes, I’m totally wet. You know what? The guy sitting next to me was wearing his rain coat, which I thought it was so ridiculous. But then, at the end of the ride, I became a little bit jealous of him as he’s completely dry.

Oh, and they also provide the drying pods which cost you S$5 to dry your self. It was pricey, I know.

Then we went to Ancient Egypt.

Ancient Egypt Universal Studio Singapore Revenge of The Mummy Universal Studio Singapore

Cleopatra Universal Studio Singapore My Sister and I at Universal Studio Singapore Universal Studio Singapore

The main ride within this zone is Revenge of the Mummyan Egyptian-themed indoor roller coaster. As you enter the building, you will walk through a narrow maze decorated with Egyptian artifacts. It was quite dark in there but once you are seated, you’ll begin having a surprising journey with a great story telling. The ride involves a backward motion, twisting and spinning and actually I don’t know what exactly they do to us, but really, this is a must ride if you happen to visit USS. If I had more time, I would definitely be back on board again and again!

I obviously loveeee Ancient Egypt! Well, I’ve never been to Egypt before, but this zone really has so many amazing HUGE statues and artifacts. It just looks so authentic to me.

Then we headed to the Sci-Fi City.

Sci-Fy City Universal Studio Cylon Universal Studio Singapore Human Universal Studio SingaporeThe main ride here are Battlestar Galactica and Transformer.

You know, Battlestar Galactica is a dual roller coaster : HUMAN & CYLON, where both tracks are intertwined and run simultaneously. I took the CYLON ride, which is similar to the Canopy Flyer at The Lost World. You know, you sit underneath the track with your legs dangling, but this one is really much…… much more extreme than the one at The Lost World. There are plenty of extreme twists and turn, and… ah I can’t even describe it.

Then we took the Transformer ride, and I have to say… this ride is beyond fantastic, I swear! It takes the 3D ride into the next level. It’s not just as simple as having a stuff popping off the screen in front of you. It’s much more than that.

Here, you’ll ride a futuristic vehicle through an amazing transformer world and then you’ll be moving from one 3D scene to another. This ride has so many bumps, backward motion, fog, sound effect, and even a ‘falling’ effect. It was fantastic and sooo real that I felt I was really involved in the transformer battle. There was one moment when you are suddenly whipped into an office building and you crash the tables and then you crashed into the window and fall to the street and the transformer saved you. It was sooo fast, it has a great senses of speed, direction and turn and everything happens so fast!

Getting tired of riding the extreme rides, we headed to the last zone, which is the New York street.

Yellow Taxi Cab Coffee Shop at Universal Studio Elmo at Universal Studio Singapore Sesame Street Universal Studio Singapore New York Strees Universal Studio Singapore Sesame Street Universal Studio Singapore New York Strees Universal Studio Singapore

The attractions here are Lights, Camera, Action! by Steven Spielberg and the Spaghetti Chase. I was amazed with the attraction they got in Lights, Camera, Action. It was a show actually, demonstrating a hurricane about to hit New York City and it was as real as those in the movies. You’ll be able to see the storm, the fire, and other unexpected scene. That was quite a show.

So…. That was the end of my journey in Universal Studio Singapore and I’m hoping I could come back later. 🙂

  3. Grace Senga berkata:

Hello, your blog is very interesting and informative, thanks!
Can I please ask you, how long does it take to finish all attractions at Universal Studios? Do you need a full day? I am going on a Monday and I am thinking it will not be very full.
The reason I ask is because I want to maximize my stay in Singapore. I want to find out if I still have time to go to the Night Safari or perhaps have a city tour. Do you think I have time to combine other attractions on the same day?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

Hi Grace. Thank you so much!

      Yes, sure.
Well, in my case (when it’s not a holiday season yet), I only need like half a day to finish all the attractions there. And I’m sure you can go to the Night Safari right after, since the safari will start at night.
But, you know, I found my self really really exhausted after playing all day long in Universal Studios so what I did is go back to the hotel at 5 p.m.

If you got all the energy you need, I’m sure you got all the time for a city tour 😉
      Have fun, Grace!

      1. Grace Senga berkata:

I appreciate your prompt response, it’s very helpful. I have decided we will just relax afterwards and explore the hotel (Resorts World). Thank you so much!

        1. Sharon Loh berkata:

No worry. I’m glad to help.
Yes! You can relax at Sentosa beach if you want 😉 That would be such a pleasure after a tiring day in Universal Studio.

  4. Anne berkata:

    Hi Sharon
I understand all rides close at 6pm right? what else is there to do after 6pm?
Is it better to buy ticket online or buy upon arrival.Am coming frm KL

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

      Hi Anne!

Yes, you’re right. You can go to the beach if it’s not to late, or watch the water show in Sentosa island. (I forgot what they call)
I don’t know exactly which one is better. I myself bought in on the spot since it’s not holiday season yet. But if you’re planning to go on a high season, it’s better to buy the ticket online I guess.

Anyway, have fun in Universal Studio! 😀

    2. Tra Vel De Light berkata:

Buy online because you get to skip the queue, save time and complete more rides!
After Universal Studios Singapore, head to Songs of the Sea at Beach Station (monorail) to complete the day.

      1. Sharon Loh berkata:

        Thanks!
Yes I didn’t buy it online back then since it’s not even on the plan. But if you’re sure about when to go, buying ticket online could save a lot of time (and effort)! 🙂

Hi Sharon. I m Raj from India.
    Nice writeup. Really helpful.
Is one day enough for USS if i am planning to stay in one of the hotels in resort ?
    And what about sentosa ?
M planning my trip in December.

    — RAJ (srajesh2000@gmail.com)

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

Hi Raj! Glad that you found my blog.

For me, one day is enough. It depends on the crowds. Since I don’t go on a high season, one day is enough for me to try all the rides 🙂
But then, I was too tired at 6 pm so I didn’t explore Sentosa further more. I only went to USS and went back to the hotel right after. I’m sure watching “Songs of the Sea” in Sentosa after spending a day in USS would be such a perfect way to end the day. Or you could just chilling at the beach.

I wish you have a great time 🙂

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

Yeah it was! But it’s nothing compared to yours 😉

      1. Travelogue Asia berkata:

Oh really! Thanks so much for the comment. Btw which one did you like?

        1. Sharon Loh berkata:

The Macau one!! I really wanted to go there from a long time ago. Especially the Venetian Hotel. I look so many photos of it and it looks beautiful. Hopefully someday I’ll make it there 🙂

          1. Travelogue Asia berkata:

Yeah it’s a wonderful place you should visit. Venetian was an extra ordinary experience

Hi Atta. Thank you so much for reading! 🙂

  8. Great share and very nice photos, Sharon.
To save your precious time, you can always purchase your Universal Studios Singapore Tickets at AttractionsXpress.com in advance. If you are taking monorail from Vivocity, you have to pay the fare as well (via EZ-LINK)

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

Hey thanks for the info. Will definitely purchase my ticket there next time. It’s so much easier I supposed.

  9. J berkata:

Nice post. I do love the Egypt area as well! Revenge of the Mummy is one of my favorite rides at USS! The ‘Cleopatra’ character is actually the Nile Princess, inspired by Anck Su Namun from “The Mummy”

    1. Sharon Loh berkata:

      Hey, J. Thank you!
Haha I know right!! Revenge of the Mummy is also one of my fav! Oh wow, never heard about the Nile Princess before.
Gosh now I miss USS so much. It’s been years!

      1. J berkata:

She is inspired by the female antagonist in “The Mummy” films. I think she has a more villainous role in the second film, along with a bigger role. In the movies, she is the Pharoah’s mistress and Imhotep’s (the Mummy) secret girlfriend.
