It’s soooo good to finally have Korean food again! I feel like it’s been a long time since I had it at Bo Shin Myeong Ga, Jakarta several months ago. And I kinda missed it. This time, I decided to try another venue : Chung Gi Wa, in Bandung. I’ve heard so much about this place but haven’t got the chance to visit until last month. And you know what? They told me that they’re going to have open another branch probably next month (or next year?). I’m not sure.
Like many other Korean restaurant, the interior is dominated by wood. There are built-in charcoal grill on each table. And also exhaust hood.
What I love about eating out in a Korean restaurant is the side dish (banchan) they give for free!
Side Dish (Free)
The side dish they serve here is not as many as the one at Bo Shin Myeong Ga (it’s still my favorite Korean restaurant, so far!). But they were all nice, in flavor.
One of the most popular side dish is Kimchi. It’s a traditional fermented cabbage which was originally made to preserve the veggies for winter season. Well, I also heard in the traditional preparation of kimchi, it is normally fermented underground in jars for about several months.
To be honest, I still can’t really tell if a kimchi is good or bad, like all of them tasted just the same to me. For me, if the kimchi tasted kinda spicy, sour, salty, and not too watery, then it’s a good one.
Dolsot Bibimbab – IDR 75k
Bibimbap (or literally ‘mixed rice’) is another famous Korean dish. The rice is served in a hot stone bowl (dolsot) and topped with sauteed vegetables and also raw egg. To eat this, we mix the chiili pepper paste (gochujang) with the rice until it is… well mixed.
The bowl is sooo hot that the rice sizzles when it touches the bowl – it makes mixing a lot more fun.

One bowl offers a large serving! So we just need to order one for two. Anyway, it tasted kinda sweet and sour with a tiny hint of spicy flavors. I can’t even describe it! But yes, it is addictive!
Ogyopsal – IDR 87k
This was everyone’s favorite! PORK BELLY!!!!
This one has its skin on. But if you prefer, you can order another one with the skin peeled off. I think it’s called samgyeopsal or someting.
So….. good it melts in your mouth.
They serve it with a basket of veggies : lettuce and garlic. And the way you it eat, is by wrapping the meat and the garlic with the veggies.
Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch at Chung Gi Wa! Food was great, atmosphere was okay, price was pretty fair. The only downside was that the staffs were not really attentive. As a matter of fact, they were quite slow.
TIPS
You don’t need to order some drink if you don’t want to since they will give you free ice tea, in a big jar 😉
